UPDATE: Ask Louisiana Governor to VETO Fluoridation Mandate We have just heard that Governor Jindal has vetoed the pay raise bill that went through the Louisiana legislature. The reason he gave was the lack of discussion time given to the bill. This gives us a huge glimmer of hope, because the argument applies equally -- if not more -- to the mandatory fluoridation bill (SB 312). Please take a moment therefore and send in this online message to Governor Jindal urging him to veto the unfair and unwise fluoridation bill. We can also take this opportunity to urge him to view an important new video explaining how a similar mandatory fluoridation bill was defeated in Oregon.

December 02, 2008 Subject: Dear Governor Jindal, I was very encouraged that you had the fortitude to veto the pay raise bill, and that the reason you gave was the lack of discussion time. I believe that this argument applies equally – if not more – to the way the mandatory fluoridation bill (SB 312) was rushed through both the Senate and House with little discussion and no public hearings seeking expert testimony from both sides of this very controversial measure. Worse still, most citizens in Louisiana knew nothing about the bill. Thus I urge you to veto this unfair bill. While you ponder on this important decision, I would like to inform you about a similar effort in another state. Last year citizens and legislators in Oregon were faced with a mandatory fluoridation bill very similar to SB 312. Fortunately, citizens in that state found out about the bill and organized to educate themselves and educate the legislature on the dangers of this practice. As a result, the bill was defeated. Those opposed to the bill included the only doctor, dentist and nurse in the State legislature. I believe that as you watch this video you will realize that this fluoridation bill is not only unfair in the way it was pushed through the legislature (with so little discussion and so little input from your citizens), but that deliberately adding fluoride to the public water supply at about 200 times the level in mothers milk is a very unwise thing to do. I also believe your legislators will come to this same conclusion if only they are given the chance to hear from both sides, which your veto will allow them to do.
